Impute not my long Silence as a mark of disrespect to
you, But Why’s shoud such an injurious though engage my mind a
Moment for sure my my Dear Friend has long known the regard I pay to
plain honest dealing that nothing but {?Inability} shoud have prevented my addressing
you long ago, Indeed I am still much indisposed the Gout and Rumatism flying
all over me particularly my Stomach and right Arm that I can scarce make a
Letter but as I know a line will give you satisfaction you will readily excuse
[damaged] other imperfections – I must desire you will postpone sending for the silk
[damaged] till my Health is more established – But shall be greatly Obliged to you
to desire you Friend will send me an 8 Gallon Cask of Raison Wine
to be orderd here and I will remitt you the Money for the eight Galls and
Cask with great Thankfulness for that and all other favours. I long much
to see you and am truly sorry for the unlawfull Love Affair in your Family
as I am certain it must distress you – I expect the Capn and a Gentleman
along wth him here to Morrow I hope youl soon give me your Company for a
day. I am sorry I cannot offer you a bed but hope ere long to have it in my
power James joins me in Our Best wishes and I am Affecly yours

Christiana Shuttleworth to Ann Hare, 31 March 1781

Apologising for her long silence, it is not a mark of her disrespect, she has been indisposed with gout and rhuematism, particularly in her arm and stomach which have prevented her from writing, asking for Ann Hare to send her an 8 gallon cask of raison wine, she is looking forward to Ann Hare's visit and is sorry she is unable to offer her a bed to stay the night
