My dear Mary Ann
The Election terminated
on Thursday evening & the Generals
were chaired on Friday, after having
been kept some days in suspence
[damaged] the friends of Roscoe whofor the
[damaged] a day or two polled only one man
an hour for the purpose of [illeg]
[illeg] the Election longer, & mak=
=ing the Generals & their friends
spend more money, which was their
principal aim (save electing Ros=
[crosshatched]
year the Currants [damaged] very full of blooms.
I am very glad to hear by Jas letter
you have got the parcel, I hope none of
the things are hurt, I was afraid it
was lost but am sorry so many of the
contents will be useless, they will [illeg]
instead of stones to fill [deleted] your trunk,
when you return how much I wish
that time was come. The Brownbills
have left Gateacre but still intend visiting
Gateacre Chapel as usual – Mr Lace has
Made his house white

The Expence of Tarletons Election
was 11 or twelve thousand Pounds,
of Gascoynes 800 or thousand, & of
Roscoes about 5 or 6 hundred Roscoes
men being supplyed from [illeg]
Tarleton had houses open in
Lpool, Chester & Manchester
I suppose you have heard of the
taking of {?Alexandrea} from the
Turks. We hear Bonaparte &
the Emperor of Russia are [illeg]
=ing for a Peace in which England
Is inclined, I trust it will be a
successful treaty but I am afraid
