Having anxiously expected for sometime a letter from My Dear Mrs Hare
I ventur’d to open one that came from my Fried to Nelly Hesketh by this mornings
post I am griev’d to hear you have been so very much indispos’d but flatter
myself the worst is over and I shall have the pleasure of seeing your Ladyship as
chearfull though not as active as when we last met_ as there is not any individual
who aiquits emselves better in nursing other peoples children then you do_ there is
not amonst my acquaintance one I wou’d wish to shine for ‘emselves more then
you and I heartily wish, but how ineffectual are vain unsubstantial wishes
that instead of 80 miles there was not one that separated us _ your Jenny
often amuses herself in thinking what she wou’d say to Mrs Hare & her Dear
Creature was she happy enough to enjoys theirs and Mrs Elliotts agreeable
society_ had there not been a prospect of encrease to your Family I shou’d
have flatter’d myself with being able to prevail of Mr Hare and you to given
us the meeting at Harrowgate this summer I have not been quite well and my
Mother & he your pleas’d to style my Doctor thinks a jaunt to that place
wou’d restore me_ I wish you wou’d endeavour to find me good Husband
in your part of the Country for Yorkshire Air agrees the best with your Friend
& why not wish to have me as well as Molly Hesketh for a neighbour.

The smart little Captain is going to keep a {?Wisky} riding on horseback being again
some complaints he has he and I are to go an airing together_ Mr Graham comes
once a week upon what business I cant say but I imagines to talk Miss Sharples
out of her reason shou’d he succeed I never more will pretend to the least penetration
he being one of the Last Men that I shou’d have expected to have married advantageous
the Curate that succeeds him reads extremely well, what sort of a companion he is I am
as yet totally ignorant_ I have a loss of the Doctor in the conversing way as I gene-
-rally saw {^him} three or four times every week but: do assure you my Dear there is no love
only Friendship betwixt us, we was school-fellows at the writing and reading School
and have been acquainted ever since_ _ Ned Smith is busily engag’d in composing
verses and setting em to musick, our Organist is instructing him and his Daughter
on the Spinett_ I expect to be in disgrace for I have not drank tea there these 4 month:
Nan as he formerly call’d her has gain’d so great an assendency over him that from having
the greatest and most unwarrantable contempt for her, he really appears to have an estima
-tion on her management_ his Brother and he are upon speaking terms_
my old Flame Tommy Knowley is with his Father on amicable terms_
Richard Taylor continues very indifferent_ I am apprehensive that it will end in a
decline_ he undergoes a vast deal and with a fortitude rarely to be met with at any age
he will esteem himself greatly indebted to you for the Friendly invitation you have
sent him, my Mother presents her sincere thanks for this fresh proof of your regard
to our Family_ if it ever be in our power I flatter myself inclination will not be
deficient to make a return_ _ my Aunt Fazakerley is complaining on_ my Uncle

got by falling down-stairs_ my Aunt Mount and Molly are both better then when I wrote
Last the latter has been very frequently at Church_ you never mention whether Miss Wright
be married nor where Miss Nancy is_ I wish she cou’d captivate Mr Elliott that was
with your Father when I was at Sheffield and then Mrs Elliott would always have
that amiable girl near her_ my Mother summons me from writing and unites me
in love to Mrs Elliott and yourself Compliments to your Lord & Master and Mr Elliott

Jenny reports on the poor health of her and her mother, and provides a round up of the health of other members of the family. She praises Ann for her talent for nursing and alludes to Ann's pregnancy. The letter discusses courtship in some detail, both Jenny's and other people's.
