I am at last got by my self, & am
set Down to taste more real Pleasure, then any
Employment that has not some relation to you can
Bestow. I went this morning to Iemens, & expected=
=ed at Least to find a pair of Eyes not unlike
yrs Look kindly,
How was I dispaointed! & how Different did I
find yt faint sketch of you, to that strong &
lively one wch: Love, & ye most Expressless tenderness
Have Drawn in my Soul. Dearest Angel! Don’t
Believe me a Quite a Fool, & {^then} Imagin I must Be
sensible of yr Merit, If a Heart that was never
anothers can be any return for yr goodness to me,
Be assur’d that Return I have long agoe made
you. They tell me my own Soul! you have
Been absent 3 Days, perhaps it may be so, but
in my account of time if you stay till Wensday
Sennight, I shall have been wthout you at least
3 months – I am well, & impatiently Expect ye
Post that shall Bring me ye same account of you
tis late, or I have a thousand things to add – I

Judith Madan to Martin Madan, 23 March 1725
Martin has apparently only been away from Judith for 3 days, but to her it feels more like 3 months. She went to see sketch of him at Lemens, and was disappointed in its likeness – she hoped to see his eyes, but he looked very different to the image of him that is drawn upon her soul. She hopes she can repay his goodness to her by the fact that her heart will always belong to him. She is well, and hopes to hear by the next post that he is well also.
