Dear Cousin James
We have a hundred books
in our library, how many have you in yours –
it is 36 miles from Gateacre to Manchestr, -
We are to come to see you in June which I am
very glad of, my Father has been to London
and came home last week he brought me a
knife; and Miss Roberts a pair of Scissars;
We have got two kittens they are both very
playful – I have begun to learn to write & am
in joining hand I like writing very much
Pray who gave you the money to buy the loaf
with – We are all well here; are your trees
in blossom yet; our Cherry trees are in full bloom

but the Apples trees have not uch blossom
on them – are you glad that we are coming
to Gateacre, - you Grandmother is not here
if she comes before we go we will bring her
with us – do you know how old Hatfield
is I suppose he his a very funny boy –
Miss Roberts gives her love to all of you
and I give mine – yours was a long
letter and a very nice one – how do you
like knitting I think I should prick my
fingers with the needles – We are going
to bathe in a large tub in the yard
I shall like it very much; I hope you
will write me another long letter soon
