Manchesr David’s Day 1810
Dear Brother
I have received the Books they
are the same Edition that I expected (that is an abridgement)
but I expected that they would have been old Books
however I am much obliged to you, & as some
compensation for your trouble independent of the
Hat wch I offered you for a Guinea, I have a Coat
which I think I may venture to say has not be
had on more that a dozen times & wch is
too little for me, I now offer it to you for
30/- which I will shew you the Bill where I paid
for it 80/-; if you choose to take it, you must
write to me directly, it is a dark green colouring, very
much like the one I wore when you say me in
Liverpool – you had better come over to Manchester
for a day or two, & I dare say I could clothe you
from head to foot at about one third of the
[new page]
original of real value – if you do not have
this coat I will send it to my Tailor to
sell for me –
I am yr affectionate Bro
Wm Bateman
I am getting a plate cut
Of our Coat armour for my Books
