Richard Cumberland to George Cumberland, 25 August 1775
He mounted his horse and had set out to get home but a dramatic change in the weather meant he stopped at a friend’s for breakfast instead. His friend sent him some shoes so he continued the journey on foot. He has spoken to the laundress who says she cannot wash and mend all the items for the price offered. The dinner bell rings so he ends the letter.
