10 Monday morning Mrs Conway brought my ward to Charles St & I am
now just returned from Brampton where I have left her under the care of
Mrs Ancram & Co. I hope and believe she will be Happy and well
taken care of as she can in any school. I sincerely wish she may
be satisfied & comfortable I have done every thing in my power to make
her so and to her schoolfellows made her apology for want of early
education & better carriage all which I put on the want of sighs.
I have agreed to pay two guineas per year addition that she Breakfast
and have Tea in the afternoon which she wou'd think hard to go without
now as she has long been used to it.
Mrs Ancram brought out a new sort of Brace to make
her Back a little narrower which I agreed to have that she may
have every opportunity to improve her person but I do not expect
much from the contrivance as she has already three here which
have not been of the least use to her.
I pay’d Mrs Conway what she had laid out and made
her an allowance of ten shillings a week for her board – but we
recollected that she had been a fortnight longer so I am in Mrs Conway

Elizabeth Lister to [?Executors of Dr John Taylour’s will], 1 October 1799
Concerning the care and education of Ann Lynsdale, ward of Court of Chancery, allegedly illegitimate daughter of Dr John Taylour. Lister has brought Lynsdale to a school and hopes she will be happy and well looked after. Discussion of a brace to make her back ‘narrower’ and improve posture.
