Sir
I sho’d have answered your letter sooner if I had Rec’d it as
you expected I sho’d – you will find by the outside it has been
directed to Berkley Sq and I did not get it till this morning.
In regards to Ann Lynsdale I think with you it is
highly proper she sho’d be at some school tho’ I fear she is too
indolent to may any improvement – I hope she does me the
justice to inform you that she was to have gone to school after
Christmas but she was so unfortunate to have a sore leg which the
surgeon desired I wou’d not attempt to heal as it might prevent
the Humor she has about Her falling in her Eye what has been
the case Spring and Fall ever since she has bee under my Care.
You Sr are the best judg which is the properest school
for Her, because you know what her income will bear, but
I sho’d recommend that which is further from Ibworth
When Mr Middleton gave her up to me she at Mrs Bunyans at
Ibworth. They did not wish to keep Her on account of her connect
and I wou’d have placed her with Mrs Pomeroy/ a very good woman
at Twickenham, but Mr Middleton object to it because he

Say’d she would always be in Mrs Conways shop afterwards I placed
her at a School of great reputation where Lord Rodneys Daughter
were and many girls of good connection {^at Southampton}. She was there a year & half
had Masters for Music and Dancing and every other polite accomplish
ment – I am sorry to say she made no improvement whatever and
Mrs Bernoir the Mistress desired me to remover her, indeed she was
great part of the time under the Hands of a Surgeon and Physician
who both with Doc’r Wathern desired she might live well & thought
school diet not sufficient for her constitution –
As she is most likely to be connected with the young man
who lives with Mrs Conway I see no reason why she sho’d not now
be under her Relation Care and be with Her at the Holy days
which if you think proper I shall send her trunk there
I am Sir
Your obedient
Eliza Lister
