Dear Brother
As Robert has been so concise in his
account of the Ball at Astrop last Monday I will
entertain Charles and you with a longer history
of it, for it was really very agreable, we break
-fasted there in the Morning then return’d
home to dine and dress, in the evening the Ball
was open’d with a Minuet by Robert and Mrs
Cartwrighte, for Lady Say did not figure away
in a Minuet, she danc’d Country dances with the
Master of the Ceremonys, Mrs Wodhull & Mr
Wm Cartwrighte, Robert and Mrs Taylor, Jack Watkin
with Bab, and I, we stay’d there till day-light
and then came home, Mr Whitmore has been
here this last week, eighteen people din’d
here on Thursday and fifteen the next day
we have seldom had less than a dozen
next Monday we breakfast at Astrop and go on
from Thence to dine at Mr Cartwrighte’s
Old Mrs Nicol is dead, and her daughter is married
again to a Farmer’s son of Chichley, a young
man about twenty five, they still continue to
live upon her Farm at Clifton.
Bab is with Mrs Wodhull at Aynho, Mary
is here, and Nanny is with Lady Vere
