My dear Brother
I would have answer’d your
letter sooner but we have been so much hurried I
have not had time to do any thing, the cause I will
tell you when I get to Witham ‘which I now fear
we shall not be able to do till Saturday evening
so I beg you not to stay dinner on our account. We
have now order’d the chaise to bring us towards you,
but yesterday it was uncertain whether we should
not have been obliged to go fifty miles another way.
However I do hopes now the affair is blow over.
The Dr had been with us since friday, we shall
bring him to Witham. We intend taking a press at
Cambridge and Newmarket in our way down. I
have paid Elmsly and order’d Bayle to be sent but
I will give you a more full account of Brooks when
we meet. I have sent your hat, The chaise is
not yet set out, but I have paid Forster and order’d
him to send it as soon as possible. I am your
affectionate Brother

Robert Augustus Johnson to George William Johnson

Robert has been hurried and has not had time to reply to George’s letter sooner. He will explain why when he sees George – at one point he feared he would have to travel in a different direction. He fears they will not get to Witham until Saturday evening. They will bring the doctor with them. Robert has sent George his hat in advance.
