I have the pleasure of
informing you that my dear little Woman was last
night brought to bed of a Daughter. She has
had a good night and is charmingly well this
morning, and the little girl is perfectly so. I need
not tell you how happy this event made me,
you own good heart will conceive what I feel much
better than I can describe it. I will say I never
felt so many pleasing sensations before. Adieu
my dear Brother han joins with me in kind
love to yourself and Charles. Most cordially am I
your affectionate

Robert Augustus Johnson to George William Johnson, 30 October ?1772
Robert reports with joy about the safe birth of his daughter, and that mother and child are both well. He struggles to find the words to convey how happy he is, but he knows that his brother will understand, and indeed feel the very same emotions in his heart better than Robert can describe them. He reports that he is so happy that he has ‘never felt so many pleasing sensations before’.
