for them to do,
have had an opportunity {^this year} to have been a Proprietor in

how I am like to succeed in my Transportation, I cannot
say much as to that matter, the Queen has promis’d me
her interest, the Prince & Princess Royall have spoke
three or four times for me & constantly receive answers
in my favour, but as my fate is in the Hands of
Courtiers, I am
their sincerity, & rather believe a defeat than success.
[f.130v]

Martin Madan to Judith Madan, 12 February 1732
The letter begins with a discussion of business and purchasing land in St Christopher’s. Martin has been dined at Lord Cowper’s. Discussion of a child’s christening, and the possibility of delaying the ceremony. Their dear little fellow (?Martin) is well and happy, and is enjoying being gifted 'play things' and sweets.
